With his recent turn in “Joker,” Joaquin Phoenix is a Hollywood A-lister; however, long before he became the toast of the town, his brother, River Phoenix, was well on his way to stardom. River was born to a missionary family who lived with a religious organization called the Children of God in Mexico, Texas and Venezuela, and he and his siblings became street performers to help the family survive.
After leaving Children of God and moving to California, River began taking parts in commercials and TV, and his breakout role came in the 1986 coming-of-age film, “Stand By Me.”
